Sampling a cellar temperature waxed and capped 750 ML bottle (#114/230). Picked up from the brewery upon its release.
The wax is super hard to get off of the bottle, but eventually I pop the cap.
Pouring the beer into my snifter the beer pours pitch black with no light passing through. A frothy tan head of 3 cm foams up and creates windowpane lattice on my glass as it fades. Eventually this foam is only a thin edge layer.
The aroma on this beer is some dark chocolate and a good dose of molasses and brown sugar. I also get some roasted malt notes and almost a bit of charred wood, from the Mezcal? No hop character to note, and the booze is hidden on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with thinner texture than I would have expected. the beer drinks very easy and smooth on the physical traits.
Flavor is roasted malt, dark chocolate, and a good dose of molasses and brown sugar. I also get some dry wooden notes, some light booze notes on the finish that lingers long after each sip. Not a lot of warming or hot booze notes, more black peppery bite and a little tequila - esque flavor. I dont get any real hop character on this beer and I find that I am sipping it throughout the sampling.
glad I bought this brew and look forward to future iterations of the beer. I think I enjoy this barrel aged version more than then regular one.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
