very bland taste - almost "puky" in flavour. Definitely on my "do not buy" again list

500 mL bottle from the LCBO; packaged Jun 10 2018 and served slightly chilled. Nice looking label.

Pours a foggy, medium golden colour with some flocculence, generating one centimetre of frothy white head that falls apart within a minute or two. A thin cap of soapy film survives, surrounded by a foamy collar; looks ok, though some lacing might help matters. On the nose, I'm mostly getting bready, doughy pale malts and cereal grain sweetness, along with lesser hints of grassy, vaguely herbal hops. Faint suggestions of apple skin and white grape, and I do mean faint. A bit plain, but the aroma comes off as clean, as well as appropriate for an English-style pale or golden ale.

A passable ale that I find difficult to classify - it tastes sort of like a mixture between an English golden ale and a standard North American blonde, but with a weirder (for lack of a better term) profile than either of those styles tend towards. The doughy pale malts and cereal grains from the nose are still a major presence here, accented by hints of green apple. Grassy hops round out a mildly bitter finish, with hints of rubbery, band-aid flavours cropping up in the aftertaste - I'm neither a brewer nor a biochemist, but I'm sensing that something might be up with this one. Light in body, with average carbonation levels that prickle the palate continuously as you sip your way through the glass; feels crisp and at least moderately refreshing.

Final Grade: 3.22, a mediocre C+. Norse Golden Ale isn't necessarily a bad beer, but I do find it to be quite dull in general, with the aftertaste being the straw that broke this camel's back. Maybe all that flocculent stuff was dead/autolysed yeast cells? There also seems to be some sort of phenolic character in here, which doesn't necessarily *ruin* the beer, but is still not something I want from this style. They seem to be canning this now, so in the interest of fairness I'll give it another shake somewhere down the line (and update this review) - but for the time being, you can colour me unimpressed.

Golden and hazy with a finger of off white head that dissipates fast. No visible carbonation within.

Smells of honey and biscuit, with hints of bitter herbs, and light floral notes.

Tastes of honey and cracker, malt forward and full of biscuit, with a very light, elusive bitterness.

Medium body, light carbonation.

Got this at Sobeys in Parry Sound last week. Never heard of or seen it before, but its local from the area. Really good brew. Enjoying this under the moonlight at Lake Muskoka, Dec 3rd, 2017,
