Picked up a single can of this. Wanted to check it out, Shoe Tree has been largely relegated to crossover beer status for me based on their volume of beer that basically just has candy or ice cream dumped into it.
Pours amber, darker than the overwhelming majority of ipas you can find about anywhere these days. 1/3" off white head. Doesn't smell hoppy, can't tell if they were going for an English ipa or an American ipa. They say a west coast ipa with UK ingredients. Does not compute. Caramel kind of nose.
Taste, more caramel waves, just has that dusty hard candy that has zero sugar to it kind of vibe. Had a binding effect of booziness meets bitterness. I dunno grapefruit and caramel is a combo I guess. If you want a "balanced" ipa (I don't), this might be your jam. Reminded me a little bit of Nevada's most famous ipa, Ichy from Great Basin, just had that malty, low hop kinda English ipa feel to it the whole time.
I drank it watching a Marquette game.

Thanks, Chad!
Was grateful for pulling in this, along with 16 others, from Chad and Bill on a recent work trip to Reno, Nev. Had tried one Shoe Tree before, giving Shoehorn Double I.P.A. a 4.00 on Untappd after the 2018 Firestone Invitational. Can read, “OI!PA Is a punk rock inspired West Coast style IPA brewed with traditional UK ingredients. We went against the grain to brew this aggressive one of a kind OI!PA” Hops mentioned on can were First Gold and East Kent Golding. Sounded interesting.
Poured a light amber clear color with one finger of off-white fizzy head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass at a pretty fast speed. Good spotty lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled earthy malt, floral, plum, leaf, hints of smoke and cinnamon, honey and gum. As always better out of the can. Could not recognize the hops, but cleaner out of the can. (Smell - 3.25)
Tasted about the same as the smell. Very boozy for 6.9 pct. Got herbal, leaf, cinnamon spice, plum, earthy malt, bubblegum, honey and spoiled tangerine peel. (Taste - 3.50)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish. (Feel - 3.50)
Not a big fan of this one. The beer was made fine, just not my thing with these hops. (Overall - 3.50)
