12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.
05/01/19.
Appearance: Pours a vibrant orange-yellow body with a bit of haze and topped with an inch of off-white froth.
Smell: A little vanilla sugar, dehydrated orange peel, some banana chips with wheat malt and cracked cloves mingled with the added coffee.
Taste: Wheat malt, coffee with an adjoined acidity. Medium-light sweetness, taking on some honeyish, treacle tones. Light citrus (orange-lemon), old banana peels and spice throughout, which is interwoven into the everpresent coffee. Lightly sweetish, wheated finish, a little sugary hint lingers.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation.
Overall: Hmm. I gave this some patient, careful thought. Really, I did. I didn't mind the notion of coffee in a saison (I wouldn't have procured it otherwise) but I'm not sure I was thrilled with its execution, here, as I'm noted for fussiness in both saisons and beers utilizing coffee. Looser, light, more airy, leaner in maltiness (pils) with a drier, spicier, less estery profile and plenty of suds is what I had in mind. Though, you then wonder, could that sustain a coffee inclusion? Hard to say. Hard to say.
