A drinkable, above-average ESB had on tap at the brewpub in Burlingame. One of the best offerings from Steelhead.
Color a rich brown. Not much head, and what's there doesn't stick around - but the lacing sticks on the glass permanently. Malt and hops aroma is to style (i.e., British-y, no NorCal influence here). Taste has some malt promise, but gets grainy and vanishes too quickly (like most Steelhead beers). Lacks the special water texture of the best British ESBs.
Near the top of the list for this brewery, though. Preferable to their Red or IPA. Certainly worth ordering if you're in there, but not worth a special trip..

Not the best cask ale I've had, that's for sure but it was'nt all bad. Dark amber color was topped by a thin head that left very little lace. aroma was weak, some grainy malt and a touch of hop. Finish was smooth but had a very long lingering quality to it, strange in a way. I'm spoiled by cask beer in the U.K. and another bay area brewery doews it up right (Magnolia). The cask IPA at Steelhead was nice, the bitter needs a bit of work.
