i believe this name has been used for at least three saisons now, a grapefruit one, a dry hopped one, and now a dark one aged in barrels. i had the dark one, at 8.4% abv it is obviously something different than is what is listed here, they should each probably have their own entry. this one is really neat, deep raisin brown color with a belgian looking head and a lightness for its strength. the oak profile is strong and sweet, like new wood to me, notes of vanilla are pleasant with the esters of the yeast, dried fruit, black pepper, and cola all are there for me in both aroma and flavor, with some red wine, rum, and whiskey notes also all in the mix as it warms up. the yeast isnt overly belgian, and its not rustic or funky at all, but it somehow still seems just right for this, a very mellow yeast profile lets the nuanced malts do a little more, and the complexity here is high. nice full body to it, but the beer is never heavy, sweet early on but then drying, an espresso sort of creamy bitterness to it, and then the oak extending and smoothing the finish, no sign of its alcohol strength at all, just really clever and flavorful beer. id love to try the other beers that have this name as well! the dark one is killer.

Pale gold/yellow colored pour with a white head. Herbal and peppery aroma. Grapefruit is strong upfront balanced out with pepper and yeast flavors. Can also taste and herbal and slightly piney hop presence.
