A murky orange, brown beer with a creamy head, that settles into a small layer fairly quickly. The beer came gushing out of the bottle when opening.
Smell is herbal and has a nature-like smell. This is the only way I can describe it. The maple juice is adding just enough smell to wonder what it is. The malt backbone is light and has some caramel malt notes. Medium to low bitterness. Too bad that there is a serious oxidation smell here too.
Taste of spicy and light medicinal greenness. The base taste is pretty good, weren't it for the oxidation. Looking through this; there is a nice caramel maltiness. The bitterness is spot on and the maple juice is adding a nice twist to this beer. I might give this another go someday.

Bought at the foreign beer bar of the Pig's Ear Beer Festival, early December 2006. BB End 2007, served lightly chilled in a large Burgundy bulb wine glass.
A: pours a murky, dark orangey tawny hue; no beer head is formed; semi-lively carbonation full of tiny bubbles.
S: besides the candyish maltiness and ubiquitous yeastiness, the nose reveals lots of fruity perfume, featuring peaches and very faint tinge of figs, slightly like a barley wine... a quiet flow of alc. stays in the background, but overall the aroma is quite thick.
T: soft-textured maltiness upfront, ensued closely by gristy pale malts and chewy-textured sour-sweet fruity yeastiness... The dry-ish aftertaste is marred by more sour yeasts and tart, zesty fruits, and an intriguing touch of malt sourness in the end. The finish falls a bit too thin and sour, due to the slightly OTT sourness.
M&D: softly-carbonated on the mouthfeel but rather thin-bodied and slightly watery in the end... The overall profile reminds me of English Barley Wine big time, although the hop entry in this beer is inadequate, to say the least. For a 8.8%abv. beer, the alc. hides very well, though. All in all this is an average offering--an O.K. Tripel.

BBE 2007. Nice presentation with white head and foggy amber beer. Nose is very fruity and listed birchjuice must have something to do with it. Nice yeastfruit bannana/sweet ripe apple and maltarome with it as there is also a hint of alcohol. Taste is strong full malty and rich. Birch gives a good twist to this brew as it is very clean brewed also but think its also responsible for the bit hanging bitterness that isn't misplaced in this brew and tempers the alcoholtaste that's thare but not too much in the front. Good drinkable brew that's certainly bit else as the regular Tripel.
