Self-described as a double IPA, this seemed like the best category to list it. There are some New England IPAs that have equal and above ABVs and some that are less cloudy. But, judge this on its own and not by a label. There is an obvious abundance of carbonation, but the pour to empty a pint can's contents into a clear glass liter mug produced no excessive stark white foam on top. Instead, there's a thick just-off-white head on top of a moderately dark orange-amber liquid. It's somewhat bright and somewhat cloudy, although not nearly murky. This one is not meant for the nose. There's only a little earthy combination of starches and hops to be had and they're muddled. The taste is green and immature. There's not much starchy backbone and what is there is mostly just sweet. The hops are decently bitter in an earthy/piney way, but there seems to be no complementary relationship between those two taste aspects. The best characteristic about this is the way the eight percent ABV is incorporated into the taste. Overall, it's not a bad tasting brew, it just seems a little green. By that, probably more time in the vat could have married the hops and starches in a more complex way and added to the mouthfeel. More likely appealing to those that prefer the West Coast hoppiness to the New England complexity, but this probably won't totally satisfy either.
