473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 27 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy pale yellow colour, stirring up an inch of soapy, sudsy white head that dissipates within a couple of minutes. A thin collar is left encircling an islet of film on the surface; minimal lace production. Mild aroma of wheaty grains, peach and bubblegum, with suggestions of yeasty spiciness and ripe banana.
Not bad - the peach flavour is a consistent presence throughout the sip, backed by wheaty, bready malts, apples, banana and a touch of citrus peel. Slightly tart, with notes of bubblegum and clove spiciness rounding out the tail end, followed by a wheaty, spicy aftertaste that lingers for a few moments. Light in body, with assertive carbonation that adds some spritz to this brew's smooth, slightly frothy texture. Easy to drink, and fairly refreshing to do so.
Final Grade: 3.54, a B grade. Salt Dock Jump Peach Saison is acceptable as a quaffable summer fruited wheat ale, but I don't think it's a very good example of a saison. The peach flavours are pleasant enough - not sure if they're authentic, but they work well in this context. The problem for me was that the underlying saison is seriously lacking in depth. I'd give this beer another chance, mostly because this can is not all that fresh and thus deserves the benefit of the doubt.
