My what a traditional Bavarian brewery ! 4th generation same family too. Nestled at the top of a triangle between Munich and Salzburg near the Austrian border, Altottinger has got all this tradition going... including views of the Alps. Hard for me to say much more because their website has no English translation. But carrying on an historic brewing tradition and modernising their plant to a high lagering standard, I give them good Overall Hugs.
Bought this from London's Hops Burns & Black. Their Mazen Looks average (big bubbled head disappears fast and its amber bod is undistinguished even in the evening sunlight.) But I give .25 for the pop-top and traditional label. Smells are really average, not distinguished. Sweet Tastes offer nice lingering hops in the finish, but this is bred into the style. Suitably cleansing of my palate and worked well with pasta and red sauce; sweet malt played well with the tomatoes; adding to my Overall rating.
Glad to have the chance to drink from yet another Bavarian brewery. But on to the next. Prost !

I'm missing the malty backbone of a real Märzen. This fits the Dortmunder Export style better.

Golden color with off-white head. Aroma has sweet, bready malt with some woody hops and a hint of smoke. Taste is sweet and bready at first, continues with floral hops and a nice background bitterness, really well balanced overall. Medium body with soft carbonation. Although it's not a style I enjoy very much, this one was actually quite good and easy drinking.

The beer, despite a satisfyingly promising and traditional amber apepatrance fell short of my expectations in several ways.
The taste is at first as required and expected of a PROPEr Maerzen but followed by asourness that is not wanted to myknowledge in the style.
The mouthfeel and drinkability are perfectrly acceptable but nothing special and slightly hampered by the sour after taste.

BB10-09-05. Nice white head; not that stable. Nice deep golden beercolor. Nose is very hoppy and fruity, lots of citrussy but good maltnote and litle sourness there. Taste is litle to empty for a strong brew as this is, some sips even felt watery watery but fresh cause of good carbonation and litle sournote. When beer warms up it gets more and more malty but its a smell as greenmalt in maltinghouse. Alcohol well hidden in a plesant and bubbly brew. Drinkable but IMO no highflyer between other Bavarian of the style.
