Barley "wine" Brewed with Phantasm Powder with Sauvignon Blanc Juice Added - Can Release 11/26 - $24/4-pack
Half the world drinks beer, the other half drinks wine. To bridge those worlds we brewed a barleywine in a literal sense, a beer influenced by winemaking techniques and ingredients as much as possible. Phantasm Powder is derived from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc grapes, providing the thiols that create tropical aromatics in New Zealand whites. We then added Sauvignon Blanc grape juice to enhance that expression while also cutting the maltiness of the beer. The result brings together the crackery and grassy flavors of malt and hops with the rhubarb and passion fruit flavors of Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

This one pours a very clear golden straw yellow color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing. This doesn’t look like any “barleywine” that I’ve ever seen, but admittedly, it’s only very loosely supposed to represent the style.
This smells like grassy hops, lemon, bready and cookie-like malt, and light grape funkiness.
This is barely a barleywine, it’s actually described as a “barley” “wine.” I wasn’t really sure how it was going to end up, but I honestly don’t mind it. The grape flavor is added judiciously, with some stone fruit, white grape, and floral character. There’s also light breadiness, and some lemony and grassy hop character.
This is light bodied, with very little booziness, and a good drinkability.
This is pretty weird and purposefully non-style, but I still pretty much liked it.
