Caraway Black Lager
When people say "ooh this tastes like rye" that usually means it has caraway seeds. Caraway is also a surprisingly common flavoring in liquors (aquavit and kümmel). We toasted and ground these tasty little aromatic seeds and infused them into our already bready dark lager. The toasty-earthy flavor they bring calls to mind rye bread and Scandinavia.

Brownish black body with a light brown foam head. Rye aromas with roasted malt and yeast with an earthy emphasis. Taste has the caraway more defined amongst the rye, otherwise the same. Feel is lush and smokey in a gentle but constant way, very smooth and decently frothy

A Tavour Treat. Pours a dark brown color with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aroma is spicy. Taste is tangy caraway seeds; an interesting flavor. Not bitter at all.

16oz can from Tavour. Black pour yields a creamy tan head. Roasty aroma with a touch of caraway and anise. Taste is sweet, roasty, chocolate, caraway with mild bitterness. Creamy feel, savory finish.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a two finger khaki head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, coffee and caraway seed. Flavor is dark toasted and bready malt, cocoa and caraway seed; caraway rye bread in the finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess. The profile is basically a schwarzbier with caraway seed added. At first, the caraway adds an interesting and surprisingly well integrated flavor to the dark malt. The finish is amazingly like a caraway rye bread slice. Even having been warned by the can that people think caraway itself tastes like rye bread, my tongue was detecting rye and yeast in the finish as well as the caraway seed. This really worked, the caraway is a pleasant addition to the dark malt. Nicely done.
