We created a porter with all of the with toasty, bready, and cocoa notes of the English originals… but souped-up to a modern American flavor intensity and body. To do that we used English malts including Maris Otter, Amber, Brown, and Chocolate along with a hearty addition of oats. It’s the sort of beer we reach for when the weather turns cold!

16 ounce can poured into a nonic pint glass.
Canned on 10/26/22
L: Clear dark brown, one inch head, tan foam is loose and disappears in less than thirty seconds.
S: Light roast and chocolate malts.
T: Acrid, bitter and roasty when cold, sweeter caramel malt coming through as it warms, finishes with moderately bitter char.
F: Medium-ish body, seems to be under carbonated, smooth with minor oat creaminess.
O: Nothing fancy, but I would say in line with a modern traditional English Porter.

Pours black with thin brown head, poor retention, not much in the way of lacing
Aroma of cocoa powder and dark roast coffee bean
Tastes like cocoa dusted dark chocolate truffles and espresso crema
Medium-full bodied, dry, lower carbonation
Been wanting to try something from Sapwood for a while, if for no other reason than I've met both of the owners and was a fan of their blogs, but pretty much everything that's distributed around me is a NEIPA, which is a style I don't really like. Was hesitant to drop the $21 on the 4pk for this, and while I am glad I tried it, it's not worth the cost of admission.
