West Coast Pilsner with Nectaron® and Mosaic® Cryo®
This beer combines three different Pilsner traditions. The base has the soft-rounded body, rich-maltiness, and firm bitterness of a Czech Pilsner. We hopped it with Nectaron, following the New Zealand example of adding fruity local hops to their Pilsners. Finally we dry hopped with Mosaic for the dankness of a West Coast Pilsner! Combined it is a beer that smells like an IPA, but is as crisp and easy to drink as a Pilsner!

Poured a can into authentic German pils glass. Body was perfectly full with a gorgeous plumy cap close to 2”. Gorgeous clear light yellow body. Remarkably nice lacing and thin halo on clear body. Nose unusual but consistent with hops assuming usual Bohemian/Czech base malt. Flavor was as expected with non traditional hops, but absolutely delicious. Only downside for me was that I served at traditional cellar temperature and found body too heavy for a Czech Pilsner. Not really crisp at European serving temps. So if that was the goal, it missed. But if not it was actually a very nice smooth brew. I liked it, but not what I consider a Pilsner body. Might be different if I’d poured it at American temps.

Bright golden appearance, soft moderate foamy white head, moist lacing. Mixed bitter, fruity, hoppy, grainy notes. Moderate body and carbonation, lively texture.
