West Coast IPA DDH with Nectaron® and Citra®
The DTC Team has long been Sapwood-boosters. So when they asked if we'd collaborate on this West Coast IPA for Downtown Crown Wine and Beer's 10th Anniversary we jumped at the chance! Copley takes the classic style's dry finish and firm bitterness, but updates the aroma with a modern tropical twist. New Zealand Nectaron hops bring notes of passionfruit and Sauvignon Blanc grapes to balance the orange-dankness of American Citra!

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Canned April 2nd 2024.
Bright and pale brass colored, crystal clear, and some fine rising carbonation. Bright white head, soildly reaching three plus fingers in height and some good retention. Minimal lacing. Everything about this color and appearance just screams bright and shiny.
Pungent aroma, hinting just a hair mostly dank, but with some sense of fruit classic grapefruit and bitter zest notes. More pungent notes upon longer examining more than anything.
Palate seems to stick to basics, but also plays it safe. Light bodied in feel, almost session like but just enough malt depth to not get watery. Flavors in the mid palate sort of flirt more towards pineapple tropical in taste as opposed to citrus. Almost clean like in a lager way for finish, but with some touch of mild bitterness and fruit spice quality.
Other than a real clear appearance, this doesn't remind me much of a West Coast style, but turns out to be a decent IPA at least.

A really aromatic and resiny West Coast. They really nailed this one.
