My first brew from Sapwood has two of my favorite things: maple & barrels. Contained in 500ML of glass.
The pour is dark, dense, nearly bubbleless black. The nose brings smooth bourbon, smooth booze, smooth sweet malts.
The End of the Beginning is heavy & intense. Bunches of malts make this thick, the definition of a pastry stout, & provide plenty of black, sugary sweetness. Barrels check in. They mimic the smell, smooth, gentle, nothing sharp or awe-struck about them. The maple syrup adds to the overall impression (did I mention it’s smooth?) while sticking another level of complexity. A little roast, but not enough to offset a beer that’s akin to downing spoonfuls of sugar, which limits the amount of this delicious brew I could take at one sitting. Two hours for this bottle seems likely.
Beautiful beer. A slightly subtler hand would have rocketed this beast into the stratosphere but even as is, this is excellent. Going for a nap now.

500 ml bottle poured into a snulip.
L: Thick crude oil brown pour, just a wisp of brown foam, glass coating
S: Bourbon, dark sugars, graham cracker, roasted malt and pleasant alcohol.
T: very rich flavor, sweet molasses, graham cracker, bourbon and oak, hints of roast and tobacco, sweet overall but not cloying to me.
F: Full bodied, low carbonation, soft viscous and creamy feel.
O: Fantastic cool weather sipper.
