Served on draft into a tulip glass at Craft Conundrum in Charleston, SC.
Arrives pitch black with a mocha colored head. Frothy and beautiful. Generous amount of lacing on the sides of the glass. Not quite a curtain, more like a heavy veil.
Aroma is so roasty. I always prefer my stouts to be on the roasty side, and this one delivers. “The perfect marriage of rich roast and decadent chocolate. This beacon in the darkness will light your way and warm your heart.” Not much chocolate in the aroma but plenty of coffee and full-on roastiness.
Outstanding flavor. Almost gave this one a 5. Although I like a little hop bite on stouts, this one is slightly astringent and mouth puckering. Probably not due to the hops but the huge amount of roasted grains used. Like drinking a cup of roasted coffee beans with some dark chocolate. Not a whole ton of coffee flavor but just the right amount.
An awesome beer from a brewery I have never heard of.
