Poured a 12oz can into my 0.5L weizen glass. Poured gently down the side as I was expecting it as a berliner weiss; they can be quite volatile. Less head than I expected. I recommend pouring about an ounce straight down the center and quickly adjusting to the side to get a better head. Pours straw yellow and very clear for wheat.

Crisp citrus acidity on the aroma. Beneath that, banana bread with a hint of clove. Tastes and feels smooth and malty, abruptly transitioning into a clean acidic sharpness, with the aromas accenting it, finishing like sweet lemonade.

Overall, Banana Stickers does well. It is a cool summer refresher, perfect for a hot summer day.

Now for a lesson in the technical classification of the beer. 'Hefeweizen' is made with a special yeast, Hefe. The more broad categorization 'Wheat Beer' is made from conventional ale yeast.

The berliner weiss and sour ale are both categorized as wheat beer. They are not made with hefe because hefe's esters and phenols (the banana, bubblegum, and clove properties) would be considered an off flavor in them. At the same time, 'sour beer' is any beer that has sourness as part of its primary or secondary flavor components. For this beer, 'Sour hefeweizen' would do.

Totally agree with @sabtos on their last paragraph of the review. This is definitely in sour ale territory. I would never guess this starts as a heffeweissen.

Decent as a sour, but not anything like i expected.

500 ml bottle

Pours mostly clear golden, fizzy white head slowly dissipates to lacing.

Aroma of banana, esters, bread malts, citrus, grassy notes, grape and green apple.

Flavor is of citrus, green apple, banana, biscuit, wheat, and wildflower.

Lighter body, stinging carbonation on the tongue.

Very tasty, a bit watery but otherwise no complaints. Very pleasant late spring beer for afternoon sipping in the sun. Would have again.

Chill fogged burnt gold with a short white head settling to a curled ring leaving some stalactite lacing.

The light but firm silky body is more tart yet clean than expected. The phenols are very, very light, and the banana esters in the tingly crispness lean more delicately towards pear, and even into citrus zest, coming to a semi-dry finish.

A little oak and funk emerges as it warms, but it could use more balance. Further, to overtly advertise bananas so playfully in the name and on the label, I think it would have been safer to rely more heavily on the yeast. This has gone far deeper into sour wild ale territory.
