a decent beer from these guys, if a little plain, a basic hefe is all, but it is not refined to the level of the best ones out there, and despite being pretty good, is an also ran overall in my opinion. its murky from the tap, not as uniformly hazy and still bright, its more brass than yellow or orange, and looks a little tired to me. the nose and taste are nice, the yeast is correct and there is a freshness to the wheat malt, a clean complexion for a yeast driven beer, banana esters for sure, but also some pear, white grape, and soft spices like white pepper and even anise or licorice, but all real subtle. the malt is bready in the taste and with the higher abv, a little heavier than a lot of these are, and much less refreshing, especially with the lighter carbonation factored in. i think the flavors are pretty solid though, and i dont mind the alcohol boost in a style thats usually so low there. high plains has yet to really blow me away with any of their beers, but this will satisfy anyone seeking a decent hefe.
