A 440ml can with a BB of May 2018. Purchased a little while back from Bison Beer in Brighton. The label describes this as a wheat base flavoured with vanilla, blackberries and lactose. The blackberries were picked near the brewery.
A: Poured into a tulip. Can-conditioned. A hazy orange-amber hue with a pinkish tinge and good carbonation. Produces a vast head of fluffy white foam that lasts for a while before steadily reducing to a patchy surface layer. Some lacing.
S: Aroma of sharp berries with hints of blackberries, grain, subtle wheat, earthy yeast and faint vanilla. No obvious hop character. Lacks intensity but pretty good.
T: Tastes of mild blackberry juice with notes of grain, light wheat, bread, earthy yeast, vague leafiness and faint vanilla. Again, no notable hop presence. Somewhat sweet, followed by a lingering yeasty character.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly with lively carbonation and good body for the strength. Aftertaste of blackberries, grain, earthy yeast and subtle lactose.
O: An intriguing concept with decent execution. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour blend blackberry juice with grainy malt, earthy yeast and faint vanilla. Nice body. I can't help feeling that some of the flavours lack impact and would come across better if they were a touch more intense. That said, this is satisfying and drinkable. Worth trying.
