For installment #5 of our Brewery Collaboration Series, Roots & Trees & Friends & Things we made an experimental Lager infused with Phantasm. Phantasm is made from Marlborough sauvignon blanc grape skins which are rich in the type of thiol precursors that create tropical or citrus aromas. We paired that up with a whirlpool addition of the NZ hop – Nelson Sauvin.

Canned 3/25/24.
Clear light yellow, with one finger of long-lasting white head.
Smell is ...WOW!.....the typical Nelson mix of white grape, kiwi, & honeydew melon , plus a slight dank element. What sets this apart, & gives the "Wow!" effect, is its intensity, and imparting of a sense uber-freshness. It's the most Nelson of Nelson things that I've ever encountered.
Taste is , as expected , white grape, kiwi, honeydew, slight pine/dank , with slight, helles-like, light grain sweetness. Light bitterness near finish, that becomes more noticeable in the aftertaste.
Feel is light, but not watery, smooth, with moderate, very, very, very fine , carbonation tingle. Initially it is semi-soft, becoming semi-sharp by finish, with a lingering light, pleasant burn. Drying effect after finish.
Overall, just fantabulous, especially if you like Nelson Sauvin hops. (I do) Putting Phantasm+Nelson Sauvin into a lager is a stroke of inspirational ....dare I say....genius? It's almost too much, too intense, but stops just short of going over that line, at least for me. I've had one cold, & one at about room temp (~55F - I like my house cool. ;) ), & I think it definitely benefits from warming up. Ymmv.
