Notes via stream of consciousness: Without any way to tell how old this beer really is I'll assume that it's fresh as it's a spring beer and today is March 20th. It could be from last year but I highly doubt it. It's poured a lightly hazy golden colored body beneath a standard-sized head of white foam. This is brewed with ginger, lemon, and coriander and I can smell the ginger and lemon in the aroma. Coriander? Not so much. It's definitely got a Belgian yeast thing going on though. Ahh, wait, there is coriander seed in the aroma; I apologize. The malt is sweet and grainy, and perhaps wheaty. On to the taste... well, not surprisingly, everything found in the nose returns in the flavor. There's sweetish malt, tart lemon, spicy ginger (not that spicy), and woody coriander. There's also some clove from the yeast, and apple. I feel like there's even a light touch of pepper but that might actually be from the ginger. It's sweetish and tart upfront, spicy across the middle, and then dry and spicy in the finish. It doesn't seem that bitter at all but that makes sense as the tartness and spiciness balance the sweetness of the malt. The head retention appears to be quite good as I'm almost halfway into it and I still have a solid surface covering and nice 'mountains' of lace rising along the side of the glass. Is this the best saison I've ever had? Certainly not, but it IS pretty damned good. I really like the transition of flavors from start to finish. The one thing I haven't looked at is alcohol. How strong is this? The label reads 6.3% which isn't that strong, and that explains why I haven't sensed it. All in all I'll call it a fairly well rounded and complex saison with a good balance. The added ingredients are clear, with the lemon being dominant, but none of them are overdone, and combined with the yeast character it's got a whole lot going on while still remaining very accessible. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently zesty with a fine-bubbled, seemingly natural carbonation. Nicely done!
