Served in an imperial pint glass at the Palatine brewpub.
Alright, so I read a blurb somewhere about this beer before it was tapped, but I've pretty much forgotten what it said, can't find any real information anywhere, and am left to just say I believe this is meant to be a re-creation of sorts of an old colonial recipe. Something like that. Anyway, this stuff pours a hazy garnet-sienna topped by a finger of sandstone foam. The nose comprises toasted caramel, lightly-toasted rye bread, pumpernickel, maple syrup, and a dash of cinnamon. The taste brings in more of the same, with a light spruce and mint character and some more syrup tossed in for good measure. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda drying finish. Overall, an interesting beer, one that works to a point, but the combination of maple, spruce, and mint just couldn't cross the finish line intact. Still great to see some experimentation out of Emmett's nowadays.
