Pours a dark ruddy brown color. Thick two to three finger tan colored head forms on the beer, lingers for a moment, then dissipates leaving just a thin layer of foam on top of the beer. Aroma is harsh - there are notes of grainy malts, some bread and strong bourbon barrel.
Taste has notes of grainy, bready malts, some dark fruit and a touch of tobacco. This is called "oak aged" but it does not specify if that is virgin oak or bourbon barrels. The taste leads me to suspect that there is at least some bourbon barrel aged beer in this. It's hot and there are strong notes of bourbon and oak. The heat makes this one of those beers that really warms your insides - great for a cold winter night. I just wish it was more bready and less grainy. Feel is medium bodied, moderate carbonation. That heat produces a palpable presence.
Overall it was a solid beer.
