On draught at the brewery. Pint pour served in a plastic cup. It pours a hazy, lemon-yellow with a modest , creamy head and thick lacing inside the glass. The nose offers lemon peel, floral hops, and an unusually earthiness that I attribute to the 90% New York malt. Its taste opens with dry citrus and the earthy notes I noticed in the smell carry through to the taste. I'd swear I'm tasting a bit of tobacco, which I would never expect in a session IPA. I discussed it with the brewer and he attributes it to the Azzaca hops. The Cascade hops contribute a clean bitterness. this ale is very lite and crisp with a pleasing level of carbonation, and it's truly sessionable at 4.2% ABV. Overall, the flavor is surprisingly complex and interesting for the low ABV. Barnstormer is highly drinkable and I enjoyed it outdoors on a delightful, mid-summer early afternoon.
