I had this ale on draught at the brewery. It was served in a plastic cup. It pours a hazy, honey-orange color with a small, milk-white head and fairly thick lacing. The smell is honey-forward; it smells similar to a Mead. There is also the smell of sweet malt but almost no hop presence on the nose. Its taste opens with sweet malt with honey at the back end. It's sweet but not cloying. The honey is evident but delicate. In fact, it's one of the best uses of honey I've experienced. There is virtually no hop bitterness. The mouth feel is thick and viscous with lite carbonation. I can feel the 9.5% ABV. Sip it slowly. Overall, Son of a Bee offers a very effective use of the local honey and other ingredients. While it's not an every day beer I enjoyed it a lot.
