Dark brown black appearance with a fast fleeting beige head. Big huge gingerbread and spice notes on the nose and palate, very sweet, very flavored. Moderate body, light carbonation, smooth and creamy, overly flavored and sweet for my liking.

Pours a dark brown with blonde edges and well over a finger of head. The nose has all the Christmas spices but the roast really doesn't poke through. The flavor is also dominated by the spices - the roast profile is pretty weak.

This might make for a good effort if the base beer was a heavy, roasty 10% stout. At this level of heartiness, it just doesn't work.

S- Yeasty Sweet grain cinnamon and chocolate aroma

T- Roasted barley, light char, cinnamon and ginger flavors

F- very thin and effervescent

O- Decent drinkable stout, but way too thin and not quite spicy enough to be called a gingerbread stout

Poured moderately hard from a bottle into a snifter glass, forming maybe a finger of tan head that quickly faded to a ring of lacing. Cola brown color. Smell is malty ginger, just play. Taste is a bit of maltiness up front, quickly followed by ginger that lingers. Definitely ginger bread, but almost too heavy ginger. Almost medium bodied, with pretty strong carbonation. Pretty solid if you like ginger, but not the best gingerbread stout.

Guinness Gingerbread Stout has a dark brown appearance, with ruby highlights, a thin, beige head and minimal lacing. The aroma is of dark bread crust and assorted spices. The flavor is similar, with a vegetative aspect. Guinness Gingerbread Stout has a low-medium body and a dry finish.

Pours dark. Light tan foam. Spicy aroma. Not that great. Tastes like a dry stout mixed with gingerbread. Not a good combination. Should be sweet not dry. Not worth trying.

Draft. Ruby black pour, typical Guinness head. Smell is a light gingerbread. Mild, smooth taste. Maybe a little watered down in flavor and mouth feel. Not bad but I probably won't get it again.

Guinness Brewing Co. "Gingerbread Stout"
11.2 fl. oz. brown glass bottle without production codes or freshness dating
$2.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: Brewed with allspice, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon. It's poured an opaque black body beneath a short head of tan foam that's alreaded faded away. My beer glass is definitely "beer clean" because I just used it for another beer and had decent head retention and lacing. It smells of spice and if I swirl my glass I can get notes of each. There's also some dark malt character to it but it's not strong. The taste follows but with more dark malt as you'd expect. It's chocolatey and a bit caramelish. The spices aren't too strong, and if you pay attention you can find them all. I get the allspice upfront, the nutmeg next, cinnamon, and then ginger in the lingering finish. That's breaking it down a little too much as the flavors are there all the time, but that's how the notes popped for me. It's moderately bitter but dry. The chocolate and caramel fade nicely in the finish and the ginger starts to rise. It's a smooth, steady, and easy ride as opposed to some beers which are more start and stop. In the mouth it's medium bodied and smooth, and I'll assume that its moderate carbonation level is the main reason that the head fell as I am now getting some spots of laceing left behind. My first impression of this beer based on the aroma was that I was not going to like it that much, but the flavor is quite different and I feel that the spicing is just perfect. The more you drink the more the spices build on your palate, so even if it may have seemed a little tame at the first sip it will have changed about a quarter of the way in. I wouldn't want any more spice than this because that would kill its drinkability. As it is, and I'm about halfway through now, I think I could certainly enjoy another without the spices becoming cloying. You could of course also have some food with it, and I'd certainly suggest that. Nicely done.

Deep dark brown, almost black, with a mahogany tinge against a bright light and a short, but long lasting, pale khaki head

The spice aromas are faint, but definitely there. The allspice is dominant followed by ginger and nutmeg, the cinnamon is far in the background

Taste almost exactly follows the aroma. The allspice and ginger are about equal followed by the nutmeg. The cinnamon shows up with a little cinnamon heat. All on top of the usual Guinness stout.

A little rough and dry, almost sandy, across the tongue with a dry finish and a slightly bitter spicy aftertaste

A worthy effort. This builds on the well known Guinness profile with a complementary spice blend. The gingerbread feel is there but with more allspice than ginger. The nutmeg plays a nice supporting role and the cinnamon is well subdued. A pleasant addition to holiday stouts that will please Guinness fans.

6% abv, features allspice, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon - very reasonable and low-key stout, solid representation of gingerbread theme within a Guinness stout... Drinkable, enjoyable, and definitely keyed into the holiday season...

Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours a chestnut brown with a large, fluffy head. Aroma and flavor feature lots of roastiness - almost like ash - with some coffee and spices as well. Mouthfeel has average carbonation. Overall it's a decent beer but not one I'll seek out again.

Dark brown appearance with a small tan head and good lacing. Can't miss the gingerbread in the aroma even if it wasn't in the name. Other spices contribute and are listed on the label (allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon). Flavor turns out pretty nicely but it's not one that I would pound on a daily basis. Would be good around the holiday table, though. Not your typical Guinness Stout with some spices added. Thinking 'Winter Warmer' nails it just right.

Brewed by Open Gate Brewery in Maryland in the name of Guinness.

Off white (not beige), modest head but the rim bubbles remain. Deep brown, but light passes easily in a ruby-red fashion.

Lots of spice to the aroma: cinnamon, all spice, ginger, and nutmeg. What isn't present is the typical stout smells of chocolate and and coffee.

The body is a bit watery with a much lower than expected carbonation. The emphasis is on the Gingerbread and not the Stout. The ginger and nutmeg seem to dominate. Again, the stout aspects aren't here except for a mild burnt bitterness. No chocolate or coffee to the tongue. The finish is dry and mildly bitter. Overall, it does what it wants to do well, but it isn't really a Stout.
