Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House "Earth Day IPA"
16 fl. oz. can "PKG on 4/11/23 L3101PC001" and sampled on 13 May 2024
$15.99/4-pk at the brewery on 11 May 2023
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is brewed with local honey and malt. It's poured a hazy golden body beneath a massive head of just slightly off-white foam. The aroma is fairly hoppy with notes of resins and citrus over a lightly sweetish and grainy malt base. The head has settled now and with a quick top up I'm looking at a finger's width of dense foam. The malt is not as sweet as I thought it would be given the aroma, while at the same time the bitterness is mid-range giving it a nice balance. I could have used more sweet-then-bitter but this works. I honestly can't make out the hops on this one. It taste like it smells but I'm not really getting any specific fruits. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. In the end it's a decent go-to IPA but nothing that sparks the imagination or fires you up to buy more. I did tear through my 4-pk in two days though so there's that.
