their attempt at a classic german pils, and its pretty close to really good. a little deeper in color and a little fuller in body than the imports are, and with somewhat more residual sugar and less snappy crisp finish, less obviously a lager in terms of feel, but a well enough made beer, quite drinkable, and not too far off the mark here. it has a fresh european grain taste to it, an obvious noble hopping, and enough bitterness to give the finish a little pep where maybe the yeast doesnt quite dry it out all the way. subtle honey sweetness to it, a lightly cerealy finish after the swallow that could be cleaned out of it, but nothing offensive, not at all. its slightly larger bodied, which i like in a mountain town in the winter, and i can still taste the lager yeast in the second half even if it never really announces its refreshment value the way the style often does. good carbonation is always appreciated in one of these, and overall i think i like what these guys are up to in limited exposure. a solid brew if slightly off traditional. i could drink a few of these for sure.
