From a 16 oz. can dated 04/09/21. Sampled Sep. 2, 2021.
It looks the part with its opaque, hazy yellow0-golden color underneath a long lasting white head.
Despite being almost 5 months old, I get a notable citrus and tropical fruit character and more specifically mango and melon. The breadiness is there but buried. Slightly ashy but that could be the age.
Medium mostly smooth mouthfeel.
The taste is full of citrus and floral notes with a mild to moderate bitterness finishing things up. Lingering finish too. Might have been better three months ago but still quite decent.

These guys have generally been quite great when it comes to hazy, intense IPAs, so I'm really hoping this one is no different. Bass Reflex is a DDH IPA clocking in at 7% ABV, featuring Citra, Cascade, and El Dorado hops. I am expecting a good bit of tropical fruit and some grassiness in this one, but thinking there will be a good bit more complexity than that!
This beer pours a gorgeous hazy orange color with a massive head of bone-white foam that builds up to an extremely solid showing of three fingers before settling down to a rocky bed of suds that measures about a finger-and-a-half at its lowest point. Great surface coverage and fantastic legs here bring BR into the upper echelon of recent IPAs I've had, in terms of appearance.
The nose really plainly states the vibe of this beer: light pine, candied grapefruit, pineapple, and a bit of melon combining to give off a fresh, fruity, and vibrant character that smells refreshing and complex. I'm into it, for sure. I will say it has a little less dankness and tropical fruit than a lot of other Definitive beers I've had, but I think the combo of Cascade and El Dorado makes that happen here, as they're both a little less "aggressive" hops when it comes to those types of elements. There are some light floral notes and hints of herbs and apricot here as well. Overall, a pleasant scent but I don't personally think it lives up to the standard of some of their other IPAs.
BR hits with a pretty big dose of grapefruit and pomelo on the tongue, followed quickly by more subtle notes of underripe papaya, melon, and apricot. Some slight grassy and floral undertones once again, as suggested by the nose, but most of this is just smooth and balanced. El Dorado is really such a weird hop to me; I think it feels even more "chameleonic" than Mosaic or Idaho 7 a lot of the time, but it could be because it's a bit more rare to see or something. It really seems to change character depending on what it's paired with, and the base of this beer is super smooth and soft with a pillowy feel and low-medium carbonation bouncing off a medium bodied hazy IPA-type grain bill condensed into a nice-drinking but not-amazing final product. There's nothing wrong with it, but to me it just feels a bit too soft, tastes too plain, and lacks some of the aggressive intensity Definitive has been known to dose many of their hoppy beers with. That said, I still think it is a good IPA, but perhaps just not entirely up my personal alley.
