A: Pours a indigo purple color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a decent cap that leaves good lacing
S: Lots of vanilla and blueberry up front along with some lighter malt and citrus
T: Follows the nose. Starts off with a wave of blueberry and vanilla and then picks up some malt and citrus. Starts quite sweet but gets balanced by some bitterness. Finishes with lingering blueberry and vanilla
M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. On the smoother side
O: A very good fruited milkshake DIPA that is well balanced and very easy to drink. Fluffy vanilla and blueberry all the way. Definitely worth checking out

Ah, the milkshake IPA. Magnet of many a beer geek's ire, though there are apparently a lot of people who also really enjoy the odd pairing of smooth, silky lactose/vanilla, whatever fruit or adjunct additions may (or may not) be added, and, of course, tons of hops. This particular one clocks in at 8% ABV and features blueberry, vanilla, and lactose. I think it's also the first can of Definitive beer I've ever had, so I hope it's good. I've heard tell of its high quality, but I have been very hit-or-miss with this type of style in the past, so I'm not going to go in with any real expectations.
The pour here is pretty attractive, with an opaque purple-pink-ish body topped off by a very retentive dollop of creamy foam with a hue somewhere between pure white and off-pink/blush. It builds up to a solid finger-and-a-half and leaves behind incredible lace and superb legs as it slowly recedes. This is definitely a pretty great looking beer that deserves the "milkshake" moniker (even though it doesn't technically claim to be one on the label, for the record).
Smells freaking great, not gonna lie! I was a bit worried about how they'd combine the fruit, hops, and vanilla/lactose to get it all balanced in the scent and on the tastebuds, but if the nose is anything to go by, I should put my fears firmly aside. Blueberry muffins right up front with a slight grassiness, a touch of hoppy spice and even a hint of tropical fruit to back up the real fruit character. It's exactly what it says on the can, and I am very excited to give it a sip. The "original" Vanilla Dome is listed as utilizing Citra and Mosaic, and I would bet the same hops are used here. I mean, Mosaic typically displays a really nice "berry" character anyway, so it would make sense to include it.
Yup, it's great stuff. Might be my new favorite milkshake IPA, for sure. The blueberry character is off-the-charts and so natural and effortless feeling. It doesn't sit on top of the rest of the beer or anything; it's just perfectly situated, surrounded by punchy, supportive hops and creamy, decadent vanilla. I think this could probably do without the lactose, honestly, as it's plenty sweet as is, but if you don't mind a fuller feel and the velvety soft palate that it can lend, it fits fine. I've had much worse and less-approachable stuff in this style with regards to the inclusion of lactose anyway, for sure, so I find it acceptable here. The flavors here are not really overly complex (though it is rather amazing how it actually does taste like an authentic blueberry muffin, right down to the grain profile feeling rather bran-like and "healthy"), but a beer like this wears its heart and influences on its proverbial sleeve. One of those brews that will scratch the exact itch you think it will just from looking at the label and reading the description. No guesswork involved. Great stuff!

16 oz can into a tulip glass.
Pours a hazy magenta color with 2 fingers of pinkish white head. The head leaves a crown of lacing as it settles into a thin layer of foam. Decent retention.
The aroma brings notes of sugar-coated blueberry muffins, blueberry pie filling, vanilla cream, and some subtle citrus and peach.
The flavor is basically blueberry peach cobbler topped with tons of whipped cream. There's a fair bit of citrus, namely lemon.
The feel is medium-full bodied with lower carbonation. Pillowy soft and ridiculously creamy. The booze is nicely hidden.
Overall, this is definitely a great "milkshake" DIPA. I'm not the biggest fan of the style, but this one is done well and the vanilla sweetness is balanced out by the subtle blueberry tartness. The adjuncts also don't completely overpower the hops which is always nice.
