Sometimes it’s good to look back through the archives and identify a beer that got a lot of love and is in need of a 2024 update.

A beer brewed with summer in mind, and making its debut at one of the highest profile festivals we attended all the way back in 2019, Centennial Mosaic was a surefire slammer from our dearly departed Originals range that wowed drinkers when we first brewed it five years ago.

We’ve decided to revive this forgotten classic and shine it up with our thoroughly 2024 hats on to create Wishful Thinking – utilising the same split on the hop bill of hot side Centennial and cold side Mosaic with just a whisper of even more Centennial, this beer is a crushable, sessionable slammer perfect for sharing good times with mates in the sunshine. Expect bright and punchy citrus notes, backed up with classic C-hop grassiness, before Mosaic tears through with its high concentration of tangerine and blueberry, backed up with subtle mango and guava notes.

I should drink more NEIPAs from England. In the U.S., the style is still hit-or-miss, not that good a record after being close to a decade of being popular. However across the Pond, most NEIPAs have been good to great. Why? Well, I have a theory: English IPAs never succumbed to the short-cut of leaning into hops and America's crafters did (and too many still do.) NEIPA is a sweet drink with a little bitter for balance. So if you lean into the hops, the brew tends to get bitter. The English NEIPA rendition tends not to use too many bitter hops.

So it is with Polly's. She knows her hops. Wishful Thinking opens with pretty good Looks (big bubbly head) that sticks around. Smells are a fruit punch. Only in the Taste do I sense hops and they are used only for balance, possibly semi-dry at the end. Medium-mouthed and very refreshing.

So the story is: I bought this from Mikkeller & Friends in their small bottle shop at Copenhagen's Norreport Market. So they must have selected it for good reason. Polly's is less than six years old and has 814 brews on UnTappd, a lot for a kid. They also have 7 times as many Check-ins as they do Uniques, indicating Polly has a very solid following. So, keep up the good work which, apparently, is more than Wishful Thinking. Cheers !
