I see this listed as a hefe but I see it as closed to an American Wheat (Sierra Nevada) than an authentic German hefe. I get more citrus and a lot less bananas from the beer overall.

Appearance - The decent white lacing sits atop the cloudy, sunshine yellow nectar.

Smell - There is a good wheat bread aroma coming off the top mixed nicely with come citrusy notes.

Mouthfeel - This is surprisingly creamy with a nicely balanced carbonation compared to other Wheat Ales I have consumed. I couldn't ask for anything more here. A great mouthfeel.

Taste - There is a slight tangy, tartness up front that lasts throughout each sip which intermingles with a slight hop backbite in the middle and end. A great balance.

Drinkability - You could drink this at a summer BBQ all night long and not envy anyone else's beer choice. My wife said, "This is what summer tastes like." I agree.

Picked this up for the holiday weekend. Never had it. Never heard of em. But you know, in a new area I've never been to, so gotta check out the local brew. When in RI...

A- I'll start off by saying I really enjoy this style. This brew pours with a huge white fluffy head that takes its time to disipate to merely skimming the top with a samttering of lacing. An opaque bight yellow tan color. A few pinpoint bubbles slowly finding their way to the top individually, a few stuck to the side. This beer looks very refreshing and thirst quenching.

S- Bread doughy, hay, lemon zesty and some bitter grass. The bread dough is the standout though.

T-Starts with a citrus flavor going straight for my slivary glands....not overpowering though. Bready malts there, not as powerful as th nose. Hay mingled with a lemon citrus mingled with a bitter blip at the end to really highlight a sour bitter finish.

M- Light bodied with low carbonation and a dry finish. Easy for summer sippin.

D- Like I said before, I like this style, and I like this beer. Easy to drink and refreshing for those hot New England summer days.

Fresh Growler Refill from Buzzard's

A- Pours a cloudy, pale, straw yellow with a nice 1/4" head that contrasts the unfiltered hazy yellow color. Solid lacing throughout but the head dies down after a couple of sips. Nice looking wiezen, easly could mistake for a top notch Bavarian Weiss.

S- Smells exactly like it sounds, big whiffs of wheat and lemon up front followed by a dim whiff of banannas. Dissapointed on the lack of clove smell that usually follows a hefeweizen.

T- The wheat hits your taste buds first followed by a smooth bananna and lemon sinergy that complements the wheat taste excellently. It finishes wit a nice slice of hoppiness to make it extremely refreshing.

M- Perfect carbonation, it's light and a little watery but its a summer brew so its good for those long hot summer days.

D- A great summer session brew! With the lite,
unfiltered, yeasty, wheat taste along with the lemon and bananna makes it a fine ass tasting Hefe in my book, and with the simple drive down the road I can pick up a fresh Growler ever saturday from the brewery which makes it sooo sweet.

appearance - Light gold color, with a real nice head, and lots of lace too.

smell - Wheat, hops, spices, bananna.

taste - Very interesting summer beer, had a slight hoppy taste at the end of the taste. Lots of wheat, spices for a taste up front.

mouthfeel - light body.

drinkability - Went to the brewery the other day and saw on the wall 2 growlers of Summer Wheat left. So I bought both of them...we drank them all yesterday. Hows that for drinkability? Very easy drinking beer, enjpyed this limited or seasonal release.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a weizen glass.

A: The beer is a bright gold color with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is very fruity and contains banana, lemon, spices, wheat and a little hops.

T: The taste starts out with sweet flavors of banana & lemon and then goes into a light wheat flavor with a touch of hops. The malt character isn’t as thin as most beers in the style. The after-taste is sweet and slightly bready.

M: Very smooth with a little crispness, light-to-medium body, light carbonation, finish is clean.

D: Very tasty and refreshing, goes down very easily, not very filling, good representation of style, I don’t know for sure but I think the bottle I found was a little old. If it was, it held up well.

How's this for a bargain: two 12 packs of the Summer Sampler for $9.99. And the beer's not bad. This was a cloudy yellow with a small to medium head and nice carbonation. It had a wonderfully sweet fruity aroma (banana, melon, maybe some citrus, as well as some grain). Great tangy taste up front, but got a little bland afterward. Decent mouthfeel. Quite drinkable, very refreshing.

12 ouncer with BB's silly, bottling number info on the label, whats up with that? Anyway this is the best I've had yet from BB. Pours a soft warm golden amber tone, cloudy, moderate white head. Nose is pleasantly yeasty and fruity. This is a pretty good wheat brew. Notes of banana and honey melons, slightly dry in the finish, just yeasty and flavorful enough to add a moderate complexity to the experience. Worth a try, nice easy drinking summer wheat.

A cloudy yellow beer. Has a big bubbly white head that disapears quickly. There are strong banana and clove esters in the aroma with some yeasty notes in the background. The banana and clove characters start off the flavor solidly. Which finishes with a smooth easy hoppiness. The mouth feel is mouthwateing or juicey. Kind of like when you first pop a piece of Juicey Fruit gum in your mouth.

Buzzards Bay Summer Wheat
12 oz brown bottle
Bottling Number: 9.11 (I think)
Served in a 20 oz tulip pint glass

This was my first time seeing this beer on the shelf. I think it only comes in mix packs. Its always nice to see a brewery introduce a new line.

The beer pours a hazy golden color with a fluffy white head. The head vanishes rather quickly and leaves some spotted lacings on the glass.

Nice German hefeweizen-like clove and bannana nose.

Very crisp and clean mouthfeel. Clovey and fruity yeast flavors take over the palate. Wheat dryness with a juicy bannana quality. Solid drinkability level.

By far the best Buzzards Bay beer I have tried to date. This is a great summertime release and so refreshing on a hot day like today.

Also available in bottles I believe. Pours a murky and hazy yellow in color. Nice head on top. The aroma is the best part. All banana and clove. (Been on a bit of a banana kick lately in my diet).Taste is sweet and malty, with a backdrop of wheat. But very sweet otherwise with lots of fruit. Mostly banana, but also tones of citrus, lemon and orange mostly. Mouthfeel is rather full bodied. And with none of that odd-metallic flavor that I remember from the other Buzzards Bay beers I have tried. Goes down quite smooth and easily with only the slightest alcohol burn.
