I found this one in a mixed 12 pack.

It's still fresh, despite these havent been brewed in quite some time. pours a dark amber color with a small head that dissipates after a while

smells pretty good-- very malty with small notes of smoke. this doesnt smell very strong though-- maybe its because its older

tastes great. delicious maltiness with crisp hops. very subtle smokey after taste. this beer is balanced great-- because sometimes smoke ales are a little over the top.

mouthfeel was pretty typical

drinkability is outstanding. i dont think you'll be able to find an easier to drink rauchbier.

overall- highly recommended-- especially if you like smokey stuff

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.

Pours a dark brown with a small bubble head that dissipated quickly to a fine swirl on the top. It actually looks like iced tea when held up to the light. Smell is dominated by sweet malts with a bit of smoke in the aroma as well. The smoke is more of a compliment than a dominant smell. The taste reflects the aroma but I actually got a bit more of the hickory smoke in the taste, and in a good way. The mouthfeel is medium with a slightly bitter, woody finish. This is a very drinkable rauchbier due to the subtle nature of the smoke, though I wouldn't put it at the top of my list of smoke beers.

judging from the reviews, i'd guess i got this from themaniacialone as well. thanks man for one of my very first trades!

this beer poured a smokey yellow/brown with a thick tannish head and rocky bubbles. the beer itself looks flat in the glass though.

this beer smells like burnt malt, caramel, a bit woody and a bit of maple.

the taste is consistant with the smell.

the mouthfeel is medium but less bold than i expected.

this beer goes down easy and finshes good. i can't find real fault with it. it kind of tastes like a weak dopplebock.

A clean dark amber/brown beer. Has a small beige head and a tiny bit of lace. The aroma is sweet caramel malt with a nice underlying smoke character. The taste starts out with a sweet malt character with a nutlike note in the background. Followed by a rush of wood smoke and a quick bite of bitterness. The bitterness and the smoke fight back and forth for dominance on the finish.

Thanks goes out to TheManiacalOne for this brew.

Pours a nice clean/clear dark brown color, nice carbonation, nice little fizzy tan head, some nice sticky lacing follows. The nose is malty, slight smoke, and some caramel. The taste is somewhat sweet, malty, slightly smoky, with some caramel. Medium body, the finish is dry. Drinkable, a tasty brew, glad to have had a chance to try this one.

Brew from maniacalone from fantasy football. Thanks!
Pouring at cellar temp into a pint glass.
Pours a clear chestnut with fluffy and fizzy eggshell white head foaming up 2.5 cm and fading slowly, which develops large craters. Several streams of bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass.
Aroma is light caramel and some smoke too, but fairly mild overall. Maybe some hints of spice mixed in the background, but very faint.
First sip reveals what the nose advertised. Some mild caramel and malt notes mixed with some light smoke and ash and just a bit of grassy hop on the finish. Body is average with fine and fizzy carbonation.
Overall well balanced and not like licking a firepit.
The beer is easy to drink and no idea what the ABV is. Clean and well crafted I enjoy the beer for sure, but do wish the smoke was just a bit more prevelant.

Poured out of a 12oz bottle into a small pint glass.

A--Has a reddish brown clear color. Little head.

S--You smell some nice malt but some definite smoke. Almost like pork bbq.

T--Actually very well balanced. Not too much smoke just enough to turn you on to the flavor of smoke in beer.

M-medium mouthfeel.

D--I would definitely recommend this beer as a starter beer for someone who wants to try the style. I have had some beers like this that taste like beef jerky. This is not one of those beer. Very nice offering from a brewery that tends to produce very safe beers. This and their black lager are very good offerings.

Growler obtained in trade with TheManiacalOne. Thanks for the opportunity.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1" beige head over the clear dark amber brew. Pillowy head fades gradually, with delicate periodic lacing present. Aroma is biscuity, balanced, with a light smokiness. Taste is in the same vein as the nose, balanced delicate but well-intended flavors, with wisps of light smoke now and again. Mouthfeel is a little too bubbly, and drinkability is pretty good, goes down easy. Nice one here, have to remember to check them out again sometime.

appearance - Light-medium brown color. First few glass's from the growler it was great. Large head, lots of lace. When we started to finish it off, it was flat, nothing at all. Finished it in one day, so it wasn't old. That was the reason for 3.5. If it that didn't happen, i would of gave it a 4.5 .

smell - Has a smoky smell, with malts and hops here.

taste - Smoky but not real smoked, kinda light. Malt is present, and then it has a bitter hop taste at the end, but not strong either. Nice balance.

mouthfeel - Medium body, lots of bubbles the first few pours from the growler.

drinkability - It was a good beer, never had this style of beer. Was interesting. Picked up the growler for a $6 fill at the brewery Saturday. I think he said they had one more keg, or the keg that was tapped was almost done and it was the last. If you plan on going up Saturday, might want to get in early. Might be the last for 1-12-08 . Though you can get them in bottles.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a bright medium brown color, with a short foamy off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of smoked malts, nuts, caramel, some spice and a little hops.

T: The taste is smoky and malty with flavors of nuts, caramel and a little chocolate. There’s a nice complimentary hops presence that provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bitter.

M: Smooth and very crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean and dry.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good representation of style, this one is a little different from what I regularly drink but it’s a welcome change. I might not want to drink this all the time but it would be nice once in a while to mix things up.
