Barrel-aged version of our English porter based on a London porter recipe from the 1800’s. Incredibly smooth with a very restrained roastiness when compared to modern porters. All roasted character and dark color come from brown and crystal/caramel malt rather than roasted barley or black/chocolate malt.

Barrel Blend Ratio:
57% - Porter aged in Wheated Bourbon barrels for 11 months
28% - Porter aged in Smoked Whiskey barrels for 11 months
15% - Porter aged in Jamaican Rum barrels for 11 months

Look: It pours very dark brown with a tan head. Head retention is good.

Smell: It has candy like aromas up front with a bit of sweetness. It has some light roast with a bit of run. There are some blackberry elements with hints of bourbon.

Taste: The flavor is a bit different from that aroma in that the bourbon and rum notes are more pronounced as is the roasted elements. It has more hints of blackberries and other sweet dark fruits, but they are light.

Feel: It has a medium body with some alcohol warming.

Overall, for me, rum is a tough one to incorporate in a beer and this has a tad bit more rum flavor than I like.

Appearance: Pours coffee colored with a one finger khaki head; good retention and a scattered pattern of lace

Smell: The barrels add a lot to the aroma, with all three making their presence felt; smoky, with both Rum and Whiskey tones; chocolate, pecan and caramel elements, as well

Taste: Chocolate, pecan and caramel forward with the barrel flavors building; the Rum and smoky tones are prominent, with the Bourbon adding a third element

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Man, this is interesting, with the barrels coming together in harmony; I am guessing the smoked Whiskey barrel held a Scotch but would be curious to know whether that was the case
