16oz can purchased from the fridge as a single for $5.99. No canned on date, but based on Instagram it looks like it was released on August 29, which is just over 9 weeks ago.
Look: Pale yellow color with a moderate to significant amount of haziness. This beer has a lot of head upon pouring. It's also quite rocky with larger bubbles. Nice head retention and lacing.
Smell: Nice aromas - good mixture of citrus, dankness, and grassiness. Up front, I get a lot of fruitiness - peach, nectarine, pineapple, orange zest. Underneath it, there's a good amount of dank and green character. And then on the finish, there is more grassiness and a bit of herbal notes. The nose is suggesting that this beer is going to have balance on the palate.
Taste: It's very tasty. And as I predicted from the nose, it has an excellent balance. Up front, nice brightness/juiciness and acidity. The notes mirror the nose along with a few additions: peach, nectarine, apricot, pineapple, orange zest, grapefruit, and blueberry. The fruitiness doesn't remain for so long, because you are quickly introduced to the green grassy notes and dankness. The beer has a mild to moderate bitterness on the finish and it doesn't linger so long. It does have a firm dryness, which makes it very drinkable. It's just slightly chalky on the finish.
Feel: Very effervescent and relatively light body for an NEIPA. The finish leaves a firm dryness on the palate. After pouring the rest of the can, the body became nice and fluffy.
Overall: This is an interesting beer. I am a big fan of Elder Pine, and I always try to buy their beers when I see them available. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of Hazy IPAs, I can be pretty confident that I'm going to like their offerings. This is basically what I want when it comes to the NEIPA style - I love that it has brightness, juiciness, dankness, fluffiness...and I also love that it balances that with bitterness and dryness. It's quite drinkable. I've only had a few other Nectaron-hopped beers and I would say that this one is my favorite so far. Cheers!
