473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Apr 19 2025 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a relatively clear pale yellow colour, graced with two fingers of fluffy, foamy white head that is whittled away within the better part of five minutes. A frothy cap and collar hold steady, with a respectable curtain of lace draped around the glass; looks great for a light lager, though the aroma is more in line with my expectations for this style. Grainy, doughy malts and white tortilla chips, with hints of grassiness.

It's a serviceable, above average light beer with a clean flavour profile. I'm getting cereal grain sweetness and bready, doughy malts, along with a hint of corn flakes; hints of lemon and grassy hops pop up later on. Grainy finish & aftertaste that dries off quickly. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that relentlessly prickles the palate; crisp and refreshing, but a little on the bloaty side.

Final Grade: 3.52, a B grade. Death Wave itself is nothing to get excited about, aside from the implication that it may be a harbinger of more Alberta craft beers to come. Indeed, this is one of at least three Sea Change brews that popped up at the LCBO last month, and I'm excited to try the other two in the near future. Given my non-proclivity towards light beer, I don't see myself returning to this brew very often, but I would still recommend it to folks who are trying to cut back on their beer calories.
