On tap at brewery:
Pours a near clear golden color, like a nice pale ale or golden lager. The head isn’t as billowing as saisons can get, and it seems a bit still despite the medium thick ring. A light swirl, however, brings back a lovely, if short-lived froth.
The beer has a little more body and sweetness for my liking in a saison, but it’s not over or too near that edge for the style. Carbonation is on par, slightly prickly through the slightly sticky feel.
Nose and taste bring out the orchard fruits, sweet red apple in the nose with the addition of pear and a little tart apple in the taste. There’s a peppery note that doesn’t quite fit in with these sweeter fruit notes initially, though I get used to it more by the end of the glass. But a slightly tangy yeast note also sneaks in to keep things just off balance.
My bias is towards dry, not so fruity saisons, so this probably wouldn’t hit my zone even if the components worked a bit better together, but I’d appreciate it a bit more.
