New Kvass at the deli, the first Georgian one i’ve seen.
Bottle date: 10.06.2017, best by: 05.06.2018. Distributed in the USA by D&Y, Rigo Park, NY.
Ingredients list: purified water, dried bread crusts, sugar, sodium benzoate, bread yeast, and natural carbonate.
Unique from most commercial examples, this one pours a hazy golden orange, similar to an authentic bakery-made Kvass. There’s a little bit of fizz but it’s certainly less carbonated than the more commercial soda pop examples.
A whiff of apple cider vinegar when opened, similar to All Stars Bakery kvass. More like straight apple cider with a hint of salinity when smelled from the glass.
Tart lemon, tea, and crusty bread flavors, a hint of salinity again, sort of like salted bread dough. A tiny bit of sweetness, this has a bready cider character to it. Slight carbonic bite, soft feel. Nice and quenching, a hot weather refresher.
Overall it has a much more natural and authentic profile than most other commercially made examples, which are often over-sweetened.
