This Oatmeal and Coffee Stout is made with Congo Dark Roast Coffee (fair trade, organic - sourced and roasted by Alternative Grounds) & Vanilla
Notes of espresso, chocolate and a hint of vanilla dominate the aroma with a touch of roast and hop bitterness rounding things out on the palate, ending with a substantial body and smooth mouthfeel.

Appearance: Black as night for a body, poured with a thumb of head but it quickly vanished.
Smell: As advertised, coffee and sweet vanilla dominate the nose with decent potency that did not require warming.
Taste: Starts with mild burnt malt but predominant coffee that gives way to sweet Vanilla and the another earthy coffee end. That said, the coffee comes across as very mild and that sweet note puts the beer at an odd equilibrium which has been wanting some more oomph out of it.
Mouthfeel: Not quite as thick as I would like a stout to be, the transitioning is good and mild coffee aftertaste is nice, however the head immediately disappearing really hampers it. It comes across as a bit too wet and flat instead of creamy.
Drinkability: I will say this though, this is incredibly easy to drink, but for a stout, medium body is not where this beer should be in my eyes. Easy on the system and the low carbonation reduces any gas issues.
Final Thoughts: I have a few cans left from this brewer, who sadly closed it's doors some time ago. This one I saved because, you really need to be in the right kind of spot to want a coffee beer. This one however, I don't think has the coffee presence to really propel it forward. That said still a decent offering and a shame it won't be brewed again.
