This Double IPA starts with a blend of Citra and Simcoe hops. The base then receives a large addition of Freestyle Nelson hops in the whirlpool and dry hop. Super juicy ripe fruit mixed with a soft pillow mouthfeel.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance - The beer pours a super hazy light orange juice color with a tiny head of white foam. The head fades very fast leaving a touch of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heavy of a grainy and musty smell mixed with some tropical fruits of pineapple and mango. Along with these comes a decent showing of grapefruit and pine as well as some notes of herb and a bit of apricot and peach.
Taste – The taste begins with a moderately strong flavor of a bready and biscuity nature with some of the fruit that was in the nose. The fruit is heaviest of pineapple and papaya along with some tangerine and peach. There is a decent oat and hop presences as well, with the hop being strongest of a pine and grapefruit nature. Some melon and must develop over time on the tongue, and at the end one is left with a malty and thick, moderately hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – the body is super thick and chewy with a lighter carbonation level. For the malt the feel is fitting matching the bread/biscuit rather well.
Overall – In line with the trend, another super thick and overly heavy new England IPA. OK, but nothing I would go back to.

Amazing aroma on opening this Freshy released (11/23- Mortalis. The Richmond, Rochester,NY) bursts out fruits of grape, peach, sweet grapefruit. Taste follows the nose with sweet grape, grapefruit, pine, peach softness. I forgot to mention appearance was light yellow murk, fluffy head that reduced to the glass. Feel is smooth, crisp, light, mild smacky with delectable citrus bitter at the end. Wow, excellent!

16oz can from Brewers Haven. Hazy yellow pour, small frothy white head. Faint citrusy aroma, floral notes. Taste comes in soft, juicy, fruity. Floral accents. Pillowy, creamy. So delicious. What a great showcase for Nelson hops.

On tap at Mortalis Brewing in Avon, NY.
This one pours a very hazy golden and vibrant yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This is a bright Nelson bomb on the nose, with that mildly funky and juicy white grape, lemon, grapefruit, and juicy mango.
This is pretty fantastic, and one of the best Mortalis IPAs that I’ve had. It’s a great, great representation of Nelson hops, with the flavors of grape and citrus just bursting out of the glass. There’s a clean fresh bitterness on the back end.
This is smooth, light bodied, and really drinkable.
This is Mortalis’ best IPA series, and this might just be the best entry yet in this tasty group of beers.

Another Oldmanbearma star. This Nelson is yet another extremely well crafted IPA from Mortalis.
Have not enjoyed a Nelson this much since my first Nelson IPA sitting at the Alpine Brewery taproom many (many) years ago.some of you know what I mean.
