On tap at Mortalis Brewing Co in Avon, NY.
This one pours a dark brownish color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like hot leathery bourbon, chocolate, toffee, caramel, and oak.
This is pretty hot, but still quite delicious. The bourbon character is fairly well integrated for only being in the barrel for 5 months. There's lots of the typical caramel and toffee, a bit of chocolate. It kind of feels more like a barrel aged barleywine than a scotch ale, but that doesn't really matter to me.
This is thick and rich, but definitely a slow sipper, due to the booziness.
I'm impressed with the depth of flavor here - as it's one of Mortalis' first barrel aged beers, and it was only the barrel for five months.
