This Fruited Sour blends mangoes, peaches and raspberries together to form just one of this monster’s many heads. Keep your eyes peeled for even more flavor combinations.

The beer poured in typical Mortalis fashion. Thick and gloppy, like a fruit smoothie. Completely opaque. This particular fruited sour was a deep, dark, burnished orange hue that was reminiscent of apricot nectar. A sticky, bubbly mass slowly rose above the body and then quickly receded. As the liquid was consumed, a wall of sediment blanketed the glass.

The aroma was outstanding. Super fruity and sweet. Peach notes dominated. Freshly picked, sweet and juicy peaches came to mind. Perhaps some nectarine as well. There was a hint of mango but definitely not as much as I anticipated. I probably would not pick out the raspberry either without prior knowledge of the beer’s ingredients, but it was detectable as well. As the beer warmed, the tart raspberry notes came forth.

The flavor profile was also fantastic though perhaps not quite as punchy as the nose. Peach again dominated on the front end. Super juicy and sweet. Some ripe mango was noticeable as well. Bit of tart raspberry in the center. The raspberry, and the overall tartness and acidity, came forth on the back end and in the finish.

The mouthfeel was slick and smooth. Fuller bodied for the style but slightly thinner than a typical Mortalis fruited sour. The liquid contained a super fine, subtle effervescence that worked nicely.

Mortals’s fruited sours rarely disappoint, and this one definitely met my expectations. I am looking forward to enjoying more beers of this style in the warmer weather months ahead.
