16oz. can into a Side Project snifter. Shared with schen9303.
Looks completely threw me off. Dark goldenrod with a brown hue. Little to no lace, thin, oily legs. Unique for sure. Nose is caramel, toffee, coffee, and toasted coconut. Some chocolate and lactose also. Quite creamy and aromatic. Beer opens with big notes of mocha, coffee, fudge, and pineapple. Overripe pineapple with more layers of chocolate, toffee, and butterscotch in the middle. Coconut towards the end mixes really well with the chocolate, cocoa, and coffee in the aftertaste. My eyes can't believe what my mouth is tasting! Body is full with low carbonation. Smooth and slick on the palate and goes down soft and oily with a lingering aftertaste. Really solid for the style. This drinks bigger than it is.
Mortalis offerings have all been a little..... different. And this is certainly no exception. But it really works for some reason and that's what matters in the end.

This one pours a golden yellow color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like toasted and slightly caramelized pineapple, creamy coffee, vanilla, toasted coconut, and caramel.
This shouldn't work as well as it does. Pineapple and coconut is obviously a classic combo, but coffee with it shouldn't work. It does. Golden stouts are almost always a bad idea, and end up tasting too sweet. This one doesn't fall into that trap. It's certainly got that classic Mortalis sweetness to it, but it never goes overboard. The coffee is strongest flavor, and it's done so well, with a killer vanilla creaminess and slight roastiness. The pineapple comes in behind it and accentuates some of the fruitiness of the coffee. The coconut is slightly on the bench, and only comes up to bat just at the very end of each sip. This is crazy decadent and super delicious. It doesn't really taste like a stout, with the big caramel and toffee tones, but it's delicious, and that's all that really matters.
This is creamy and full bodied, with a crazy good level of drinkability. I could drink a lot of this, and that's kinda dangerous.
This should not have worked. It's confusing how well it does work.
