This Barleywine is brewed with a very simple grain bill and hopped with both Fuggle and East Kent Goldings. We then boil for an extended time before resting the beer in oak. We aged the beer in Rum and Whiskey barrels for 12 months. After aging, it was blended and transferred to maple syrup barrels to rest for an additional 5 months.

Sweet caramel and butterscotch malty, faint hint of raisins, a faint hint of maple, and a balanced whiskey barrel nose on this one! Taste follows with a delicious, toffee covered raisins, and an integrated whiskey barrel boozy finish. This is 2.5 years old?! Whoa! This has held up great! I only notice a smidgen of oxidation creeping in on the backend of the swallow as it warms. Outside of that, this is really good!

This one pours a murky dark brown color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This one smells like earthy and sweet maple, caramel, toffee, bread, and oak.

I wish I got more of the rum or whiskey barrels here, but I get some spicy toasted oak that helps balance out the sweetness. As the maple came from the barrel rather than direct conditioning or infusion, the maple character is complementary, and not overwhelmingly sweet. It's got a nice dark stickiness to it, with dark bittersweet caramel, molasses, toffee, and a sort of fruity cake like flavor.

This is medium bodied, creamy, with absolutely no booze to it. It's more drinkable than you'd think something like this would be.

This sort of thing - a maple barleywine - tugs at my heartstrings a bit. It hits nearly every button I'd want out of this, other than a bit more of a varied barrel character.
