This Imperial Stout showcases in house roasted peanuts, Dominican reserve cacao nibs, and our marshmallow treatment. The jet-black roast base is met with flavors of milk chocolate, creamy marshmallow, ballpark peanuts, and Reese's Puff cereal.

Kratos from Mortalis Brewing. Received from their website 20/04/25. 16.9 fl oz capped and waxed bottle, $ 41.76 (Including shipping & tax)/ $ 2.47/fl oz. Reviewed 24/04/25 (Review 3513). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated bottle. Stored in at 39 degrees F at home: served at 55.5 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 59.5 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Deep Brown (SRM 30), nearly opaque.
Body – Deep Brown (SRM 30), opaque. Under direct light, distinctly dark chocolate. When rear-lite, light penetrates only at the upper edge, tan.
Head – None (Maximum zero cm, aggressive center pour). However, after the pour is finished, it manages to cough up a medium density, brandy colored, bubble ring. It recedes to a 0.05 – 0.1 cm crown and no cap, fed by spotty carbonation.
Lacing – None
Aroma – 4 – Sweat and peanuts. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol.
Flavor – 4.5 – Begins slightly bittersweet. Peanuts, chocolate, and marshmallow, as advertised, at the lower end of the temperature ladder – by the final temperature, they have blended. No yeast, no hops. No alcohol (13 % ABV, according to the label). No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Moderate long-lived gastric burning occurs.
Palate – 4 – Full: creamy: soft carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA, sans roasted malt.

Final impression and summation: 4 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated personal container) Unsigned label art – some kind of battle-axe. For my taste at least, peanuts taste much better in a chocolate stout than peanut butter. And, at least initially, I can taste the marshmallow. Overall, a good stout but more than a bit overpriced. That’s why it’s called “disposable income.”

A - Pours motor oil black with a one finger tan head. Good amount of soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is heavy peanuts, milk chocolate, cinnamon and marshmallow.

T - The taste is milk chocolate, marshmallow, vanilla, peanuts, black coffee and some light roasted malts.

M - Medium body with medium carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel with a soft crisp finish.

O - Really well done. Not overly sweet. Drinks pretty easy for being 10%.

This reminds me a *lot* of Yellow Belly from Buxton Brewery, even though it's been years since I last had it. Peanuts are the dominant character, especially in the aromas. Otherwise it's just a (expensive) chocolate stout.

Drank from a 1 pint .9 fl. oz. / 500 ml bottle purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, MA
Served in a tulip

The beer poured an oily and viscous near pitch black with barely any head. A few wisps of tan colored froth topped the liquid. Tiny dots of lacing cascaded down the glass after each sip.

The aroma was terrific. Peanut butter and milk chocolate notes were most apparent. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups came to mind. Vanilla was noticeable as well. Perhaps this was the marshmallow. Sweet overall but not excessively so. Chocolate syrup appeared as the beer warmed. Some brown sugar notes were also detectable.

The flavor profile was impressive but slightly less so than the the nose. Chocolate syrup came through strong on the front end. Peanut butter was noticeable as well. Vanilla (marshmallow?) appeared in the center. Chocolate fudge and subtle roasted malt notes trailed on the back end. The finish contained a nice mix of semisweet chocolate and more rich maltiness.

Excellent oily and viscous mouthfeel. Fuller bodied for the style. Syrupy and slick on the palate. The liquid contained a fine, subdued effervescence that fluffed up really nicely.

Kratos is an enjoyable beer by Mortalis but not one of their better offerings to date. As much as I love this style, I definitely tend to favor this brewery’s fruited sours over their pastry stouts.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells chocolate covered peanuts, chocolate milk, creamy marshmallow, fudge, and vanilla.

This is definitely sweet, but there's a solid dark chocolatey base behind the sweet marshmallow that helps things out here. The peanuts are done well - there's definitely a candied aspect to them, but there's also a nice roastiness. The chocolatey character here is really nice, as well.

This is creamy, medium bodied, and rich, with no real booze to it.

This is definitely somewhere in the top tier for their non BA stuff. It's excellent.
