This Coffee Stout showcases freshly in-house roasted hazelnuts and cold steeped coffee. Then, we aged the beer for 13 months in a Buffalo Trace barrel. Big nutty flavors are met with smooth coffee and oaky vanilla undertones. May the Hazel Tree grant you knowledge, wisdom, and inspiration.

2022 bottle had cold at the Mortalis 6th anniversary party. Thought I rated this before, maybe not. Anyway… This one was a sleeper IMO. I find it an excellent representation concurrently of a coffee stout and a hazel adjunct stout. Nuts of any sort, maybe other than peanut, seem difficult to pull the flavor sufficiently noticeable over a strong stout base and coffee presence, but this is lively. Mouthfeel is also helped viscosity wise. Alcohol doesn’t bite, but brings a little kick to the thickness.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like delicious roasty hazelnut, vanilla, coffee creamer, pecan, and oak.

This is phenomenal. This was always a stout that was just begging for some barrel time, and it works very well. The hazelnut is just so fresh and toasty - with a nice sweetness but enough toasted character to keep it from being too sweet. There's some nice barrel on the back end, especially as it warms up. The hazelnut is stronger than the coffee character, but both are very nice and very present here.

This is thick, creamy, and with no real booziness to it at all.

This is definitely somewhere in the upper echelon for Mortalis barrel-aged stouts.
