From the Carwyn One subscription in March 2023. Drunk in June 2023.

L: Dark cherry-black with red tinges. Utterly opaque. A dirty mocha-coloured rim of head.

S: Milk chocolate, cherry and mazipan. Quite strong on the nose straight out of the bottle.

T: Similar to the nose: milk chocolate, cherry, marzipan, raspberry. There's a candy-like taste similar to musk sticks. The more I think about it, the more that musky note dominates the flavour profile, particularly in the long, sweet finish. Speaking of sweetness, it's very sweet. I can imagine this becoming a bit of a chore to drink given the 500ml serving. Time will tell... [spolier: it was, but there was also an increasing nuttiness as it warmed that went some way to nullifying the overwhelming sweetness, but it was fighting an uphill battle].

M: There's a sherbety zing to the mouthfeel on this one, evident especially on the swallow, and it matches that candy-like quality in the taste. Alcohol is evident in my throat and stomach but is overall well hidden.

o: I'm clearly not a pastry-boi. These big, sweet stouts are not my bag and while I'm rating to style, I just don't understand the allure of these beers. This is especially the case when the sweetness turns the beer into an exercise in perseverance like this one was.

Cheers!

Bottled on:

A - Dark brown / borderline black colored pout with very thin to no lacing and no carbonation.

S - Big, vanilla, cocoa, toasted coconut, and burnt sugar. Oversall aroma is big, boozy, and sweet.

T - No surprise this well crafted beer follows the nose. Toasted coconut, cocoa, vanilla, toasted sweet sugar, some alcohol presence, and ends on the sweeter side.

M - Thick and borderline syrupy on the mouthfeel with a silky texture that's delicately frothy around the edges and some warming in the back of the throat.

O - This dessert beer is really nicely done and a recommended try.

Had on tap at Mortalis. Excellent collab with Beer Tree.
Rich dark brown; excellent ruby red/ burnt orange accents when glass held to sunlight. Beautiful full dense cream colored head on pour which dissipated quickly during sipping. Rests as a tan halo with excellent lacing.
Nose is full with stand outs of vanilla and coconut. Taste mirrors but adds in a delicious somewhat complex coffee character.Especially noticeable during second half of glass.
Extremely dense and smooth; faint carbonation … which I enjoy and consider well chosen for these flavors.
Outstanding Big Boy Imp Stout from 2 master craft brewers.
FWIW…Would love this reupped and aged on Rye someday. Would definitely give Red Eye November a run.

16oz. capped bottle into a Side Project snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours pitch black. Not heavy. Dark. Thick, oily legs. Spotty lace. Thin head. Nose is cocoa powder, espresso, dark chocolate, a nice roast, and a vanilla creaminess. Huge mocha presence. Very aromatic. Beer opens sweet. I get cherry, milk chocolate, and toasted coconut up front. Light iced coffee notes mixed with vanilla and fudge in the middle. Graham cracker, more vanilla, fudge, and chocolate syrup in the finish. Too sweet. Body is full with low carbonation. Viscous and chewy on the palate. Goes down warm, rich, heavy. Long, lingering aftertaste.

This one's just not what I want. Too sweet and too heavy.

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and no lacing.

This smells very sweet, with gobs of cococonut, sweet milk chocolate, coffee creamer, melted cheesecake, and caramel.

I'd want a bit more coffee character, rather than just a sweet coffee frappucino type flavor in order to cut down the sweetness on the other ingredients. That being said, it's still quite tasty, and the coconut flavor is really tasty and decadent. I think it's probably the cheesecake that's really amplifying the sweetness here.

This is very thick, kind of syrupy, with a lower level of carbonation. It's definitely a slower sipper.

This is a little bit too sweet to be in the upper echelon of Mortalis stouts for me personally, but I can't deny that it's certainly tasty.
