Dark red pour that is like a fruit puree. Not quite as chunky as others in the series.
The smell is of course fruity berry goodness, very fresh. I swear there is a smell of donut icing...it's pretty persistent and definitely there. I can easily find the components of fruit and a glazed jelly donut in the smell.
The taste is no surprise and it is very good, fresh berry, and dang there's some combo of flavors that taste like a damned glazed jelly donut. That doughnut flavor manifests as only slightly sweet, vanilla donut glaze, and definite bready taste. Whatever jelly was in the donut chucked in during brewing is lost among the dominant fruits. More obvious sour base beer presence in this one, along with the sharper acidity of the fruits. Mildly bitter on the finish, only mildly sour throughout, somewhat overbalanced by the sweetness but that was the objective, I think. The strawberry flavor has an odd note to it that I can't quite place. The base beer peeks out at the end of the taste.
Luscious and thick, no doubt. Looks thicker than it drinks, actually.
Overall, another good experience with this style and brewery. These beers could easily be train wrecks, but they are pleasant as a treat. Not something to drink every day, but fun and flavorful.
