Drank from a 1 pint/16 fl. oz. can purchased on Tavour
Served in a tulip
Really extreme appearance. The liquid poured a super viscous and completely opaque, dark violet hue that was reminiscent of a fruit smoothie. There was no head nor any lacing. After each sip, a wall of fine sediment coated the glass.
The aroma was outstanding. Blackberry came through big time. Loads of blueberry too. There was a nice creamy, yogurt-like quality as well. Good dose of vanilla bean. Overall, really fantastic. Touch of strawberry. As the beer sat, the strawberry intensified.
The flavor profile was similar to the nose and nearly as impressive. Berry notes dominated. Blackberry came through strongest followed closely by blueberry. Some strawberry was noticeable too. Like in the nose, the strawberry intensified with time. Touch of creamy lactose and vanilla on the back end. Nice amount of sweetness but well balanced overall. More berry-like tartness and a hint of lingering seed-like bitterness on the finish.
Fantastic rich, creamy, full bodied mouthfeel. Smoothie like in texture. Touch of grittyness too, perhaps from the ground up berry seeds. The liquid contained a super fine, mild effervescence that was perfect for this style of beer.
Mortalis’s fruited sours are always so flavorful and refreshing, and this offering was no exception. Usually, some of the ingredients in these multi-adjunct beers are difficult to pinpoint, but they all came through loud and clear in this one.
